Above is a sketch of my sweet granny watching television when I went to visit her one weekday night. She always comments on the lack of my presence when she seems me. hehe.
I’ve wanted to talk about all the things that led up to life at 26 since my birthday in July, but have been way too busy since. I’ve finally completed the 10 meter mural piece 2 weeks ago, hence (yay!), time for some blogging… But where do I start?!
I guess, I never knew I could be this busy. I actually dislike the word ‘busy’. I used to think of it as an excuse for unwell managed time. But when every waking hour of your day is spent thinking, rushing, juggling between two jobs, social life and health, you really cannot find a better word to summarise your day (well, for me at least).
I shall share with you my personal mental diary on weekdays:
6.15am: (eyes wide open) Sleep Daphne! You have 15 more minutes till the alarm rings.
6.30am: (alarm rings) Get up Daphne! No! It was so hard to fall into this snooze! But you have to have breakfast! Ugh, okay.
7.00am: (Dam dee dam, gets into car..) Ooh! I should take a picture for the blog! Won’t have another opportunity for the rest of the day! Snap:
7.20am: Arrives at breakfast venue with laptop. Opens laptop, do artsy business’s administrative stuff, eg: prepare quotations, invoices, receipts, emails, etc.
7.45am: Head to 8-6 day job
8.00am: Do day job – which involves more administrative stuff, some designing (yay), Marketing planning, other office trouble shooting and lots of multitasking.
12.00pm: Walk to nearby vegetarian restaurant for a quick cheap lunch.
12.20pm: Back at the office. Does design work with Adobe Creative Cloud.
12.50pm: Naps on desk. (This part is extreme important!!! If not, I’ll die from migraines for the rest of the day)
1.10pm: Gets up, splash face, back to work.
5.30pm: Leave office
6.00pm: Reach gym – workout!!!
7.30pm: Leave gym
8.00pm: Dinner (sometimes with boyfie)
9.00pm: Continues artwork. Get really wired in.
11.30pm: Konk out.
On weekends, I still get up automatically at 6 something, but I’m more lenient on my working hours. I’d get to a mural site by 9am and work to 6pm or if there are no ongoing jobs, I’ll be updating all my social media sites at a coffee house or doing some accounting..
There, as you can see, every minute matters to me, especially on weekdays. I get annoyed if I’m 5 minutes late for something as it’ll mean 5 minutes less time to finish work. To complete anything at all depends of the amount of time I allocate for it. Sometimes if I’m caught in a case where I can’t do anything productive, I’ll get super restless and have to take out my notebook to run through things and plan. Everytime I have any free time at all, I’ll try to work off my phone or like at this moment, I’m typing on my blog while having a haircut. Social time is left to the weekends, hence, if I made time for people, it actually means I really like them.
There are countless times in the beginning of all this that I got so tired and unhealthy that it’s a pain to drag myself to stay on top of everything especially when I get sick. I often breakdown and sob to the boyfie, telling him how tough it is and that I can’t handle all this. Thank God for his stability, I got through everything till now, and am continuing to do two jobs I love while staying healthy in body, mind & social life. Right now, even though it’s getting tougher than ever, I’m starting to enjoy the challenge. The best part of it all is seeing happy Clients, and of course, enjoying some extra money. 😀
So to everyone who’s having a tough and busy life now, remember that balance is essential, make a little time for workouts, better food and relationships with people; and to people who find yourselves bored often, try learning/developing a new skill! It will really enhance your life in many ways!
